We made it! Scott, the kids and I made it through the worst storm to hit Texas since the storm of 1900.....whatever that was. Ike came through late Friday night into early Saturday morning. We lost power around 11pm Friday and we STILL dont have any. Normally, this would be exptected, but just about everyone else in our neighborhood has had restored power since Saturday evening. There are only about 10 homes in the neighborhood left without power and we're told it could be anywhere from Wed. to Friday before we get it. LUCKILY, I married an Eagle Scout and experienced camper, so we are good to go. There are plenty of lanterns and headlamps to go around.
Our house didnt sustain any damage, which, come to find out, was almost a miracle. Just about everyone had trees down, fences collapse, or roof damage. We got lucky. So, after an afternoon of raking just about ALL the leaves from our magnolia tree (its just about bare now), we're just looking forward to getting some AC in our house. I am suffering from withdrawls at not seeing our friends from the weather channel. In the meantime, we're listening to storm coverage via our wind up radio. Can I just say it's even better than the TV......
"Are you seeing this??? The damage is catastrophic...you've got to see this...." Ummm, is he not aware that he's reporting over radio??
"Please, everyone, stay in your homes. Do not leave...it's still too dangerous. But, here's a list of the stores and restaraunts that are open and their locations..."
The good news is, a cool front came through Houston last night and its a nice 77 degrees right now. It could be worse. We're grateful to be safe and be at home. Pictures to come...as soon as we have power. Meanwhile, we'll continue to randomly drop in on our friends who are lucky enough to have their AC back.

Glad you all are all okay and no damage to the house... and that your sense of humor is intact.
Looks crazy down there. The reporters standing in the middle of a lake reporting on tide surges and how hard the wind is blowing like we can't see the trees behind him.... that makes me happy!

no AC sucks, hope it gets turned back on soon--seriously, what are the odds that you guys are one of the few in the neighborhood without electricity, they must have known you were mormons and wanted to see if you were really prepared!
